It is a constant struggle to maintain the spirit of disbelief when everyone repeatedly magics dozens of miles with no explanation. It is constantly unexplained how frequent and how long recharge stops are, and this for a show advocating electric vehicles.Ĭan we not be trusted to understand this is all very embryonic tech and forgive it for its newness? Why won't the bikes charge when it's cold and how was that fixed? Why did the 12v batteries go flat during charging and how was it fixed? The editing makes 6-hour pauses into 6-second pauses. From then on seems an exercise in whisking away the unexplained in the edit and just enjoying the scenery. Literally in the first leg of the journey everything runs to empty and a diesel generator is brought in to rescue the situation. The prototype bikes fail at the first hurdle. Untested motorbikes untested cars untested / non-existent charging points all make for a perfect environment for a romantic editor to finesse the footage with a clear diktat- YOU MUST NOT MAKE SPONSORS LOOK STUPID.

With the exception of the beautiful vistas, there seems precious little else to enjoy in this series.

The currency of these adventurelogues is in the discovery, the camaraderie, the scenery and the adversity.
